From Janette's  Desk

Well, my favorite month, May is just about wrapped up. I like June,
too, so I guess I'm a happy camper. We have had cool weather
here since the 102s we had a couple weeks ago. Crazy weather.

Have a wonderful weekend, and don't forget to invite someone to
church!

Blessings,
Janette

The Bible in  One Year
=============================================

Daily Bible Reading - 2008

With this arrangement, you read the events of the Bible as they
occurred chronologically in a year, but in the chronological order
of events. So, for  example, many of the Psalms are included
with the readings for historical books, because they were written
at the time of those events. Likewise,  the writings of prophets
are included with contemporary historical  events.

We have two female  spayed cats who like to claw the furniture.
When we see them start, we always shoo them away, however, we
have no control when we're out of the house.  They claw the
corners and all along the back of the couch.  We are planning on
getting a new couch and chairs  and want to know how to keep
them from ruining the new furniture.  They have a cat scratcher;
I've tried applying the double-sided clear tape, however, you
can still see it.  It's not as invisible as it says  :-)  They
are indoor-outdoor cats so we really don't want to get them
declawed.  I would appreciate any ideas you have.

Also, our son has just gotten his real estate license and will
be joining a company which, I assume, is not Christian.  I would
appreciate any words of wisdom, insight and rules to live by for
him to follow as he starts out. For example,  what's important
to clients, special things you can do for them, how to get
clients, etc.  He's 24 years old and really wants to succeed as
a Christian man in a secular world.  Thank you! KB Texas.

We are a small church and have several Bibles in the pew that
are falling apart / tattered.  They aren't old=valuable, just well used.
I feel bad throwing them away, but at the same point, if you are
missing the Gospel of Luke, it just isn't worthy to keep in the
pew for visitors.   What does your church due with no longer
functional Bibles / Hymn books?   Am I being silly by not
wanting to throw out the Word of God? Sara, NC

Due to the down turn in our economy, my husband, son-in-law, and
most recently my daughter have all now lost their jobs.  Each of
them worked at different companies and over the past six months
their companies have made cut backs.  Since there is a child
involved, we are looking at combining households until the
economy picks back up and all three can once again become
employed.  Until such time we are doing everything we can to cut
corners.  One of the things we are doing is shopping at Sam’s
Club and Costco.  Buying in bulk is great, but we need recipes to
use items like rice and beans, etc.  If anyone has any budget
conscious recipes we sure would love for you to share them with
us.  Thanks and God Bless.  Betty in KY

First soak the corn, husks and all in  cold water for about 20 minutes.
Then pull the husks back and pull the hair out.  Fold the husks back
around the corn and place on the grill.  Keep turning the corn so it
doesn't burn. (yummmy) Ruth in Gladstone, MO

Here is a family favorite.

HERBED CORN

1/2 cup of butter
favorite herbs to taste (our favorite is dill weed and garlic salt
or chili powder and season salt)
Corn on the cob

Mix the butter and herbs together thoroughly Pull the husk down
and remove all the hair and tassle from the corn (you can
completely shuck the corn if you prefer) Rub the butter mixture
completely over the corn (works best with your hands and massage
it in). Fold husk back up over the cob (if you chose to leave it
on) Roll corn up in tinfoil, make sure you seal the ends really
good so the butter doesn't leak out and cause your flame to go
crazy high (been there. LOL) For charcoal grill, place corn
directly on the hot coals and turn every few minutes so it
doesn't burn.  For gas grills, place the corn on the cooking
grate and turn every minutes so it doesn't burn.  Gas grills will
cook faster.  It should only take approximately 10 minutes on gas
grill and 20 minutes on charcoal.

BUNCH DINNERS (as my mom called them)

1 potato per person sliced
Hamburger patties (made any way you like them,
we make ours like meatloaf)
1 onion sliced
fresh mushrooms, small button or sliced
sliced bell peppers
butter
salt and pepper to taste
tinfoil

Tear tinfoil off in large squares. Spray with pam.  Place sliced
potatoes on the foil, top with butter.  Place the hamburger patty
on top of the potatoes, season with salt and pepper.  Allow each
person to add mushrooms, onions and bell peppers if they choose
to.  Fold foil up over top and then fold the sides up.  Make sure
to seal it completely so it doesn't leak a lot. Place on grill
and cook until done.  Charcoal takes about 20-30 minutes and gas
takes about 10-15 minutes.  Turn at least twice to cook it
evenly.  When done, remove and set on plate and allow each person
to open their own dinner.  Serve with side salad, the herbed corn
or before folding foil up and cooking, top with green beans.

AAmazing Grace Devotional by Pastor Jeff

=============================================

"Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who
are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness,
considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one
another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" GAL 6:1-2

Something disturbs me -- really disturbs me. And I am as
much at fault as anyone else. Christians seem to be harder
on each other than they are on sin itself. Let me explain.
Someone in the Church sins, perhaps we call it "falling from
grace" or "left the faith" or some other such malady. The
fact is, they've sinned -- they have done something that
all of us do. The only difference is that they committed
a greater sin. You know the type, they ran around outside
of marriage, or they are compulsive gamblers, or it comes
to light that they are drug addicts, or even worse, dealers.
Whatever the sin, it is greater than any we have been caught
at. The result is that the person is ostracized, excommunicated,
made an outcast. We do not talk to them. We do not patronize
their business. We look the other way when we see them
on the street. I was a guilty one. You may be too.

But Paul had a different action in mind. In today's verses he
tells us to restore them in the spirit of gentleness. Certainly
our actions as previously described are not gentle by any
stretch of the imagination. In fact the word "bludgeoning"
comes to mind. Paul wants us to love them back into the
family. Few of us would disinherit a son or daughter
because they wandered away from our family values.
We love them. We pray for them. We talk to them and
encourage them. The end result is often reconciliation.

Elsewhere Paul tells us to treat the habitual, non-repentant
sinner as an unsaved individual. How do we treat them? We
talk to them, we love them, we minister to them, we pray
for them -- all with the hope of winning them to the Kingdom.
So what am I saying? Let's make a special effort to find
someone we have bludgeoned out of the family and treat
them with gentleness and lovingkindness. Perhaps we
can restore such a one to the Lord. It certainly won't
hurt and might go a long way to helping. Amen
